The Playstation Network is down and what you can do about it

Many video gamers have complained about the Playstation Network being down. true enough, it has been down since last Wednesday. Pretty bad, especially when you hear that our personal details may or may not have been exposed to however managed to intrude the network to rob Sony of its customers private details. It’s not been confirmed, but still, it’s not looking promising for PSN users.

Then again, while Playstation gamers vent their anger on Sony, let us not forget a few core principles here:

1) The PSN is free – we are not actually paying an annual fee for being part of the network, so in my eyes they can be down for as long as they like.
2) This is Sony, not Microsoft – which is one of the reasons we bought a Sony Playstation 3, because we were loyal to the Sony cause, and didn’t migrate to the horror that is Microsoft (who do charge an annual fee of £39.99 per year).
3) They have taken it down for a very good reason (although perhaps penetration testing is something that should be done as a matter of cause).

So, this is why I have a certain amount of patience for Sony, I can still play most of my games offline in one player (back to the old days then!).

The one thing that is frustrating is that I can’t play games that I have bought (or unlocked trials from) the PSN Store, games such as Gravity Crash and the new Back to the Future game.

Still, we’ve got by and I won’t be complaining to Sony – and to those who are frustrated, don’t be – here are a few suggestions of what you can do:

  • Invite a mate round – go old-skool and have a split screen shoot up. It can be just as fun.
  • Get outside – the weather has been lovely, and fresh air will not do you any harm. Got a dog? Give it a walk. And another. And another etc….
  • Catch up on some of those trophies – perhaps some of those trophies can only be obtained in single player? Obviously they won’t sync back to your account online, but at least you’ll get them done and they’ll sync back when the service is back online.
  • A board game perhaps? Risk? Monopoly? Design your own?
  • Watch this video of some penguins:

Don’t worry guys, PSN will be back before you know it.
