Netley Abbey, Hampshire

Netley Abbey is situated on the outskirts of Southampton in a nice little village called, er, Netley. Apparently Chris Packham lives there, but thats just a random bit of ‘fame’ trivia for you. Anyway, Netley Abbey is on old 13th century monastery that was home to cistercian monks up until the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century in the reign of Henry VIII. It was then taken over by William Paulet who turned it into a nice homely mansion for himself. Knighton Gorges is the place to be on New Years Eve

Tomorrow night will see a flock of ghosthunters make their way to Knighton Gorges, a lovely little place outside of Brading on the Isle of Wight. Why? Because that is where the old mansion of Knighton Gorges once sat until it was pulled down in 1821 by George Maurice Bisset, rumoured to prevent his daughter from inheriting it, but more so as it was an expensive place to maintain.
